Supporting education, environmental care, and community resilience in the Himalayan regions of Nepal

In support of the flourishing of vulnerable communities in the remote villages of the Himalayas by honoring the interconnectedness of all beings with their environment, while also providing primary and secondary (K–12) education that blends Buddhist traditions with innovative approaches to learning for communities throughout Nepal.

Himalayan Environment & Life Protection (H.E.L.P.)

In 2023, Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche expanded Tergar Charity Nepal by creating HELP, another NGO to further support his mission of empowering communities to thrive while mitigating climate change in the Himalayan regions. HELP focuses on women’s empowerment programs, sustainable biodiversity value chains, bio-climatic greenhouse projects, agroforestry and reforestation and climate smart agriculture.

Tergar Schools

Tergar Schools is dedicated to creating a contemplative education model that can be used in both Buddhist and secular K-8 classrooms around the world.

Tergar Schools currently hosts a campus of 82 students just a short walk from Tergar Osel Ling Monastery in Kathmandu, and is managing a multi-phased construction project for a new campus to be built in Yolmo that will eventually house up to 600 students.

Tergar Charity Nepal

Tergar Charity Nepal was established in June 2018 by Mingyur Rinpoche to serve remote Himalayan communities in Nepal. Currently, Tergar Charity Nepal manages three Kindergarten programs (Prok, Sama and Gyayul) and a primary school in Gandaki Province (Nubri Basic School). Annual sponsorships for the Kindergarten programs are $1800 per student. Tergar Charity Nepal also hosts bi-annual health care clinics, promotes spiritual awareness projects and leads meditation journey treks.
